As most of us in the world of counseling and people-helping know, the holidays especially can be a time where stress takes away from the joy of the season. Perceptions regarding obligations plus the growing pile of things we feel we have to accomplish throughout the season overwhelm us. What are some practical ways to deal with these feelings?
How not to let anything subtract from the joy of the season

Holiday stress can take many forms and inundate us in varying degrees of intensity. Even the most calm, organized, efficient and project-minded person can succumb to holiday pressures. When it all gets to be too much, take a step back and breathe.
Sometimes it is just best to go to some basic thoughts to help us cope.
Here is a helpful article from Dr. George Simon. He offers extremely practical ideas and focuses on some of the real-world things we can do to prevent stress and over-commitment.
This is a season that should be filled with fun and meaningful moments.
Instead of stressing, enjoy connections with family and friends. It is the memories we create that fulfill us and last over time.
Being intentional in how we choose to spend our time, as Dr. Simon suggests, can make a significant difference between being completely overwhelmed or having the time of your life!
Let’s enjoy the season.
